The 2017 COPO Camaro Has Been Announced!
It’s become something of a tradition: early November rolls around, and Chevrolet unveils its COPO Camaro at the SEMA car show in Las Vegas, NV. Back in 1969, dealers would create a Central Office Production Order (COPO) as a way of putting a beefier engine into a smaller vehicle, resulting in a powerful Camaro that was far from your typical production model. This tradition continues today in limited edition handcrafted vehicles that are built for the track and loaded with power.
Three Distinct Engines
Three robust engine choices make the 2017 COPO Camaro one of the most intriguing dragsters you’ll find on the track. All three of the following engines are paired with an ATI Racing Products “Super Case” 3-speed manual transmission that offers a reverse pattern and built-in neutral safety switch:
- 2L Naturally Aspirated V8 features an NHRA-rated 410 hp.
- 0L (427 cubic inch) Naturally Aspirated V8 puts out a muscular 470 hp.
- 2L (350 cubic inch) Supercharged V8 produces a crushing 580 hp.
Lighten the Load
Because the COPO Camaro isn’t meant for street driving, Chevy has ditched many of the cabin comforts you’ll find on the stock Camaro, such as sound dampeners and even a back seat, making way for high-performance enhancements and losing unnecessary weight that would otherwise slow you down. Performance features on the 2017 COPO Camaro include:
- Four-link rear suspension with double-adjustable coil-over shocks
- Lightweight, drag-race manual four-wheel disc brakes
- Fuel cell with built-in high-pressure fuel pump
