Brake Pad Replacement and Rotor Resurfacing Near Omaha, NE

The brakes on your car are one of the most important systems to help you avoid a potential accident. Make sure to have your vehicle’s brake pads replaced and rotors resurfaced at Gregg Young Chevrolet of Omaha. Our expert service technicians have the training and experience necessary to keep your vehicle’s braking system working like new.

Signs Your Brake Pads May Need Replacement or Your Rotors Need Resurfacing

  • Your vehicle takes longer to stop than normal
  • There is a loud squealing or screeching sound when you apply your brakes
  • The brake pedal on your vehicle feels like it’s pulsing when the pedal is pushed
  • Your steering wheel wobbles when the brakes are applied

How Often Should You Replace Brake Pads or Resurface Your Rotors?

The life of brake pads and rotors varies greatly depending on your vehicle and driving habits. For example, a Corvette owner that drives his or her car on a racetrack frequently may only get less than 100 miles on a set of brake pads. Another owner that drives more conservatively may get over 40-60,000 miles from a set of brake pads.

Brake rotors, on the other hand, tend to last longer than a set of brake pads. However, brake rotors can wear prematurely, especially if debris gets on your brake pads. A brake pad with debris will push down on the rotor unevenly when the brakes are applied and may cause the surface of the brake rotor to warp or start to form grooves. Driving with warped rotors, or rotors that have grooves will decrease the surface area where the brake pads make contact and can greatly increase the distance needed to stop your vehicle.

If the uneven wear or warping is relatively minor then it can generally be remedied by having them resurfaced (which is also commonly knows as turning). The advantage of resurfacing a brake rotor is that it can increase the life of the rotor and maximize the mileage on it before needing to replace it. Resurfacing brake rotors is generally much cheaper than replacing them so keeping them in working order is a good financial decision. That being said, if a brake rotor is badly warped, cracked, or has been resurfaced in the past then resurfacing may not be possible and the rotor may need to be replaced.
